2.1 W6: Poster Design
The 7 principles of poster design
1. Emphasis
- Highlights the most important part of a design.
- Directs the viewer’s attention to a focal point.
2. Balance & Alignment
- Distributes visual weight evenly.
- Creates harmony and order in a composition.
3. Contrast
- Makes elements stand out (“pop”).
- Ensures readability and visual interest by using differences (color, size, shape).
4. Repetition
- Reuses elements (like colors, fonts) to create consistency.
- Unifies the design and builds a visual theme.
5. Proportion
- Relates the size and weight of elements to each other.
- Helps organize content visually and guide the layout.
6. Movement
- Guides the viewer’s eye through the design.
- Tells a visual story by controlling the flow of elements.
7. White Space (Negative Space)
- The empty space around elements.
- Helps the design “breathe,” improves clarity, and emphasizes content.
3.0 EXERCISES
During this week’s session, Mr. Fauzi briefed us on the details of Project 2 – Exercise 2. We learned that we’ll be participating in a design competition organized by HONOR, and the final submission will make up 30% of our overall grade for this subject.
Our first task is to carefully select a theme, delve into its meaning, and explore its emotional and conceptual depth to guide our design choices. We were also informed that our submission must fit the Magic Lock Screen format.
In terms of technical specifications, the final design must follow these guidelines:
Dimension – 6000 x 3000 pixels,
Format – JPG,
Color Mode – RGB,
File Size – No larger than 20MB.
My Chosen Theme:
City Inspiration: Beauty - The Scenery of Hometown
THEME INSIGHT & RESEARCH
"City Inspiration: Beauty – The Scenery of Hometown" explores how one’s birthplace or childhood city influences perception, creativity, and emotional well-being. The theme is inherently nostalgic and reflective. It invites the viewer to slow down and notice the soulful beauty of everyday scenes—those that are often overlooked but hold emotional weight.

3.2 Summary of my Design Concept
This artwork captures the theme “City Inspiration: Beauty – The Scenery of Hometown” by showing a girl takes a glimpse of circular world built from iconic Malaysia landmarks. Surrounded by flying hornbills and Malaysian banknotes, she symbolizes growth, ambition, and connection to her roots. The clock beneath her feet reflects the passage of time, while the sky and clouds represent limitless dreams. It’s a visual tribute to how one’s hometown continues to inspire and shape their journey forward.
4.0 FEEDBACK
There's no feedback this week.
5.0 REFLECTION
At the beginning, I honestly wasn’t too sure which theme to go for. I was tempted to pick something more abstract or playful, but then I remembered we had to use at least 50% of our own photos. That made me pause and think—what do I have that feels personal, meaningful, and still fits the brief? That’s when “City Inspiration: Beauty – The Scenery of Hometown” stood out to me. It felt real.
As I started working on it, something clicked. Looking through old photos I’d taken, I began to realize how much of my story lives in those little scenes. I’ve passed countless times, views that I once took for granted. The whole process made me reflect not just on design, but on how home shapes us without us even noticing.
